Floor Sawing

Floor sawing is a technique widely used in the construction industry to cut reinforced concrete or asphalt. It is commonly used for separation cuts to allow for the demolition of a certain area, whether for services such as drainage or to remove old areas of substrate for the installation of new ones.

This process uses two types of saws: a self-propelled diesel or a three-phase electric floor saw. The three-phase electric saw is used for internal working where ventilation is an issue. A circular diamond-tipped blade is mounted onto the saw to cut the substrate, which is cooled using water as the blade cuts.

The sawing process usually follows a guide to a pre-marked line set out by the client, which is cut in several passes until the required depth is achieved. The concrete can then be broken-up using a robotic demolition machine.

Wall Sawing / Track sawing

Wall sawing, also commonly known as Track sawing, is a method of sawing used for cutting mainly vertical substrates. A track or a series of tracks are bolted onto the wall, and a head is placed on the track with the blade attached. This is then operated by remote control using a series of passes to achieve the required depth. The blades used are similar to the floor sawing blades and come in various diameters.

Wall sawing is usually used when concrete needs to be demolished or removed for construction projects. It allows concrete structures to be cut accurately and precisely without damaging surrounding areas. Common uses include:

  • Cutting openings in concrete walls for doors and windows.
  • Cutting concrete for demolition when only part of a structure needs to be removed.

Concrete wall sawing produces clean cuts with minimal damage, unlike demolition by a sledgehammer or breaker. It allows concrete to be cut and removed in a precise, controlled manner, resulting in lower costs, reduced waste, and less disruption. Wall sawing is a key technique used in many construction and demolition projects.
