Diamond Drilling

Diamond drilling is a technique commonly used for coring holes of all diameters. It is commonly used in construction to allow services to pass through substrates such as reinforced concrete and masonry or to excavate reinforced concrete and asphalt floors to allow for bollards or posts.

Other uses are for core samples where the client would need to take a sample core for geotechnical samples or strength testing of the substrate.

Where a deeper substrate exists, a method of diamond drilling known as Stitch Drilling is used. This consists of a number of cores drilled to the required depth interlinked together to produce a gap in the substrate.

The core barrel consists of a number of diamond-encrusted teeth that are laser welded onto a barrel of any diameter and desired length. These bits are composed of industrial diamonds set into a metallic or tungsten compound that creates the tooth. The diamonds are scattered throughout the tooth, and more diamonds are exposed as the tooth wears down during the drilling process.
